Protect Your Information
National Opt-Out
Protect your personal information from unsolicited mortgage offers when you apply for a loan.
Understanding Trigger Leads
When you apply for a mortgage, your credit report may be pulled as part of the loan process. That inquiry can trigger what's known as a "trigger lead" — a signal to credit bureaus that allows other lenders to purchase your information and start contacting you with unsolicited offers. These calls and emails can feel overwhelming, especially when you're already working with a trusted lender like Cypress Bank.
How Trigger Leads Work
Trigger leads are legal and commonly used by other mortgage companies to solicit new business. The credit bureaus sell your data — including your name, credit score range, and the fact that you're shopping for a loan — to multiple lenders, sometimes resulting in a flood of competing offers.
Why It Matters
Receiving multiple calls or emails from unfamiliar lenders can cause confusion, lead to misinformation, or distract you from working with the lender you trust. Some solicitations may attempt to sound official or impersonate your chosen bank, making it difficult to distinguish between legitimate and unwanted offers.
How to Opt Out
Visit OptOutPrescreen.com or call 1-888-5-OPT-OUT (1-888-567-8688) to opt out for five years, or permanently by submitting a signed form. This free service is operated by the major credit bureaus.
Do Not Call Registry
Visit donotcall.gov or call 1-888-382-1222. After registering, you'll receive a confirmation email with a link you must click within 72 hours to complete your registration. After 31 days you should stop receiving unsolicited calls. If calls continue, you can report them to the FTC.
